The winner of Baking Cakes in Kigali is Stephanie from Reviews by Lola. Yay!! I hope you love this book as much as I did! Please email me with your address and I’ll pop it in the mail.
I just realized that I never received email notification for a bunch of comments this week, which is odd. So while I’ve been bad about replying to comments lately, this time it’s not my fault! Well, kind of not my fault. Anyways, I’ll be replying over the next few days.
I’m also behind on my reviews. Again. But yesterday I finally finished listening to Gang Leader for a Day, which was amazing, and I hope to at least write a review for that one over the weekend. Audio books are new to me this year, and I definitely prefer non-fiction, and books I wouldn’t otherwise read. My favorite listens so far are Freakonomics and Gang Leader for a Day. Does anyone have any similar audio recommendations for me, or anything history-ish?
My reading is all over the place lately. I’ll save the details for the Sunday Salon, but I have a bunch of half-finished books and magazines littering the arm of my chair, and the side table, and the backseat of my car, and the reading rack of my treadmill. One of the books is Frankenstein, which isn’t really knocking my socks off, although I have fallen in love with this poppet. And Igor.
Another task for the weekend is to mangle a song for the upcoming read-a-thon. Because, you know, I take my cheering duties very seriously. I read over all the suggestions again and decided my next victim will be “I Want a New Drug.” Tentative new title? “I Need a New Book.” I’ll also be hosting a mini-challenge, so I need to prep for that. Judging by all the books around here, I should be a reader, but cheerleading is just too much fun.
Are you feeling like this has turned into my to-do list for the weekend? Me, too. So on that note, I’m outta here.

Yea! APPLAUSE! Shake, shake – shake those pom pons! I have to admit that I’ve been listening to songs now with a bit more discernment (is that a word) trying to find a good one to adapt to some kind of book cheer.
My song is ready, and I’ve stockpiled a few cheers. Watch out read-a-thoners!
Oh goodie!!! me,jumping up and down, bouncing, eager with glee! (and realizing that you already used Bohemain Rhap last year…)

It does kind of look like a to-do list but it’s fine by me. We all need that from time to time to make ourselves feel in control, even if we’re not. At least that’s how it works for me
I am for the first time in a long time only two reviews behind but I already know that it will turn into 4 by the time I actually do sit down to write them.

I actually made a paper list for the weekend, and I got almost everything done. Yay!
Sounds like you’ll be an awesome cheerleader–very enthusiastic!
I’m so excited I won the giveaway. I don’t win things ever so that is a nice surprise for a Friday morning. Thank you!

I mailed the book on Saturday, so it should be there soon. Enjoy!
Can’t wait to read the lyrics to your next song!!!

It’s not one of my better efforts, but it’ll do.
And…we have come to expect the best when it comes to your song writing abilities. No pressure though.
I love that little Igor. So cute.

Shouldn’t that be the worst?
I found out just yesterday that the Freakonomics guys have another book coming out soon, this time called Superfreakonomics. Not the best title, but hopefully the book itself will be good

Yay! Despite the title.
I’m looking forward to your song! As for nonfiction audiobook recommendations, I recently got my hands on Einstein, His Life and Universe by Walter Isaacson in audio. I haven’t listened to it yet, but I vaguely recall reading some reviews that said the audio was pretty good.

Thanks for the suggestion!
Ooooh…that is perfect for the song parody!!! I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
And I’m terribly terribly far behind in reviews as well. I have something like 9 or even 10 to be written!!!! ARGH!

I can’t seem to keep up a consistent rhythm to writing those reviews!
I love this kind of post.
Frankenstein really didn’t do it for me either, I couldn’t finish.
I suddenly really need a poppet of my own.
.-= Lisa´s last blog ..Random Friday: Halfway through October! =-.
WAIT. That poppet is ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY DOLLARS. I do not need one. I am in the WRONG line of hand crafting.
.-= Lisa´s last blog ..Random Friday: Halfway through October! =-.
Whew. Ok, they aren’t all that much! I do like the Cafe one, but $25 is still a lot! I will make my own poppet.
Also, I will spam your comments.

Your spam is fun! At least you don’t leave links to drugs and p*rn!
I’ve liked nonfiction for audio books better than fiction, I’m not sure why though. Maybe because there is less long-scale paying attention that needs to happen — there’s no plot or character development to lose track of if you don’t listen of the course of a few days. I’m glad you liked Gang Leader for a Day

That’s it exactly! And the language is easier to follow.
Congratulations Stephanie! I can’t wait to see your read-a-thon song.

Hopefully you’ll be that enthusiastic after you see the song.
Yay for cheerleaders! I signed up for cheerleading, too, even though I’ll primarily be a reader. I figured signing up for cheering will make me feel a little less guilty for spending so much time in front of the computer like I normally do during read-a-thons. Can’t wait to see what you pull out of your sleeve!
Someday I’ll be a reader. Maybe.
Cheering is sooooo fun. I hope I’m not sorry I decided to be a reader this time.
