Random chatter

Some miscellaneous thoughts for a Tuesday, because I’m eight reviews behind, and really, why work on reviews when you can procrastinate:

*Holy crap, it’s March! How did that happen? And I know, I had the same reaction to the beginning of February. But I’m really beginning to believe that old saying that time goes by faster as you get older.

*Heidenkind wanted to see a picture of the spine that creeped me out. Behold, the eyeball:

*That top book is my current read. And let me just say…wow. Undress Me in the Temple of Heaven was Sunday’s read…it was wow-worthy, too. I haven’t started New York yet, it just sits there taunting me.

*I mentioned last Friday that we were going to see the B-52s, and we did. And it was awesome. Even Hamburger, who is the son of a musician and grew up playing the trumpet and bass and is therefore kind of hard to impress musically, was impressed. Cindy Wilson’s voice was a little hoarse at times, but otherwise, they rocked. Especially when you consider they’ve been around since the 70′s. They should’ve been the halftime show for the Superbowl.

*Before the concert (which was at Chumash Casino) we had dinner at Pea Soup Andersen’s. It was incredibly mediocre. If you ever see the billboards on 101 (they’re hard to miss), just keep on driving.

*Next month is the LA Times Festival of Books. Yippee! I’ll be there, will you?

*I was thinking of organizing a book blogger lunch in April in Santa Barbara for anyone who was interested in a little drive, but at the time I had forgotten about FoB. And since BEA is in May, that’s a bad month, too. So maybe in June or July? Anyone interested?

    Okay that cover IS creepy.

You read so much faster than me, it just makes me wanna throw a hissy fit. And that eyeball is ridiculously creepy. I couldn’t leave that sucker on the nightstand whilst trying to sleep.

Creepy eyeball. Ew. I am definitely up for a Santa Barbara book blogger lunch! And, I have got to seriously consider the Festival of Books (LA, right?). I’ve never been

The family business may be moving the weekend of the FOB and if that is the case, I may not be able to make it. I sure hope not, but with all the back and forth crap with the realtor it’s looking iffy. At the very least I will be able to meet for dinner but it will kill me to hear all about your bookish day and not be able to witness it firsthand.

As for the S.B get together. I would be up for that.

  5. I used the Drive Time Calculator to ascertain that it would be 9 hours and 7 minutes to come to lunch. I expect I would get hungry before that…

The B-52s rock! And the LA Times Festival of Books sounds like fun.

  7. Have I mentioned to you that I have an eye phobia? I prefer my gyno to my eye doctor any day of the week. Yes, it’s that bad. I cannot stand random eyeballs, so YIKES about that spine. I will NEVER see A Clockwork Orange because of one scene I know about. I once threw away a book on Samuel Beckett because of a picture with a exacto type knife heading toward an eyeball. I will donate every cell in my body except for my eyes. They are going with me to the grave. Thinking someone else might use them would probably send me to a mental institution. I am wondering if this started with The Great Gatsby, but I can’t be sure. Happy Tuesday! LOL!

Did you get my e-mail re: FoB? I will put you down as a Yes for the meet-up :-) .

I’d be glad to drive up to SB for a lunch, but I will be on the East Coast for half of June, so I’m voting for July – any time looks good except for Comic-Con weekend.

When I used to sketch in the margins of my notebooks back in school, I mostly drew pictures of eyes, so I’m not QUITE as creeped-out by that spine as some people seem to be.

I’m guessing if it would take Jill 9 hours and 7 minutes to get there, it will take me a tad longer … ! That is one creepy spine.

  11. vivienne says:

The eyes follow you around on that cover. I am just drooling at your New York book!

Glad to hear the concert was good too.

Heck yeah I’ve seen those billboards for Pea Soup Andersen’s – thanks for the tip!

I am thinking really hard about going to the Festival of Books and will most likely be there! I’ll have to introduce myself to you!

June or July – book blogger lunch in SB – I’ll make a weekend out of it because I love SB!

  16. Amused says:

Wait – if you have any control just don’t make that book blogger lunch the last weekend of July. I am a bridesmaid in a wedding and I have a bride who would kill me if I wasn’t there! :)

So glad you liked Susan Jane Gilman’s memoir – I loved the audio so much I read it in print, too (rare happening). I’d like to read her HYPOCRITE IN A POUFFY WHITE DRESS (some day ….)

And, yes, creepy city with that eyeball.

The eye on the spine is indeed creepy! I really need to read Undress Me in the Temple of Heaven. Everyone seems to be raving about it. I want to read New York too, but the Kindle version looks so much less daunting:-)

Someone tried to explain to me why time sped up as we got older and I had no clue what they meant. I agree with the result but the whole time-space continuum rationale escaped me.
