I went on vacation for a week, and I seem to have come home and decided to go on vacation from the blog for another week. And now I have 12 books that I haven’t posted about. (Okay, one of the books is from a few months ago…I still can’t figure out how to write about Maus). This is what I’ve read lately:
The Map of True Places, by Brunonia Barry
I Am Hutterite, by Mary-Ann Kirby
The Scent of Rain and Lightning, by Nancy Pickard
Blink, by Malcolm Gladwell
The Language of Trees, by Ilie Ruby
April and Oliver, by Tess Callahan
Up from the Blue, by Susan Henderson
To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, by Aimee Bender
Mornings in Jenin, by Susan Abulhawa
Backseat Saints, by Joshilyn Jackson
So help a blogger out here people! Do you have any questions about any of these books? I need writing prompts, and I’m not ashamed to beg you all for them.

Did you have any preconceived ideas abt TKAM? hold up to expectations? How do you think Scout’s character grow and what most influenced this growth?
Did you like the Lemon Cake one? I adore the title.
I have Blink – do you think I will like it? Why did you read it this? I see it is the only male author on your list here. Are you intentionally reading mostly female authors or is it just working out that way. (I noticed that I am split even on my M/F ratio so far this year and I hadn’t been paying any attn until I looked.)
I am not in any hurry to read the Brunonia book – will you compare to her first? Do you think I will like it?
Which one of these was your favorite. and why?
Are any of these review copies? from BEA?
I am most looking forward to your thoughts on the Language of Trees – I like that title, too.
Have a great weekend!

How did you feel about Blink: Too much anecdotes & not enough Serious Facts, or just the right balance for a fun read? Are you now paranoid about making the wrong split-second decisions?

Well, I’d love to hear what you think about Blink and The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake
. And To Kill A Mockingbird since I just read that one!
I’m guessing “what did you think about ____?” isn’t a valid prompt, huh? Becuase I’m really interested in your thoughts about Up From the Blue, April and Oliver, and Mornings in Jenin.
Did you find that the use of language in The Language of Trees enhanced the story or got in its way?
Good luck on your writing!
Was this your first time to read TKAM? If not, how did your perception/feelings towards the novel differ upon a second reading?

I really wish I had read any of these so I could ask insightful questions. Instead, I would like to suggest pairing the books up; this obviously limits the number of posts you have to write, and it also gives you a particular pov from which to write the reviews.

Wow, Care asks awesome questions. I have none. But, welcome back and I hope you had a fabulous vacation!

What did you think of the Aimee Bender book? Was it the first book by the author that you’ve read before? If not, how does it compare to other books by Bender?
Was To Kill a Mockingbird a re-read? Why did you pick it up to read now? Can you give us a favorite passage?
Ummm…I’m not going to be helpful at all and just say that I can’t wait to read your thoughts on all of these. But no pressure or anything
I’ve been wanting to read the Brunoia Barry one myself…
Samantha´s last [type] ..Picnic At Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay
The only one of these that I have read & really know much about is To Kill a Mockingbird, so I will ask about that one.
Assuming you read it before, was there anything that hit you this time that didn’t in the past? Who do you think are the Boo Radleys of today? Were you able to read the book without picturing Gregory Peck? What other characters from literature will forever be linked to the actors that played them in your mind?
Is this a re-read for To Kill A Mockingbird? If so, what did you think this time around? What did you think of Boo Radley?
For Mornings in Jenin I hope you’ll post the review to my Middle East Reading Challenge review link after August 1. I keep hearing about this book. Did it help to give you a good perspective on Saudi Arabia?

Do you think To Kill A Mockingbird is still relevant? If yes, how and why?
I received The Language of Trees yesterday. Do you think I should jump the gun for it?

ohh I would love to hear your thoughts about To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. I mean it is a classic and I have never read it. Do you think it is a book that should not be missed? I mean, there are a few classics that I have passed off because I could not read them, is this readable?

Does The Language of Trees compare tree song to whale song? ‘Cuz I have a theory about that…

I’d be interested in your thoughts on The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. I’m trying to decide if I want to read it or not, and, so far, the responses have been lukewarm.
I don’t have any questions but I REALLY would like to see your thoughts on Maus. Was it your first graphic novel (trying to search my memory for other GN posts)? How did you feel about the portrayal of animals for the different ethnicities? Fine, that’s two kind of boring questions. Did it make you cry? Three.

I’m late to the party, but I will be fascinated to hear your views on “I Am Hutterite”. How in the world did you come across a copy of that? The author is from around my hometown and I heard her speak a while back (at my library).
This question is about The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake. Have you read Aimee Bender’s other book, An Invisible Sign of My Own? If you have, do you think that the books are similar? I ask because I have read An Invisible Sign, and it was kind of weird (in a good way) and I am wondering if Lemon Cake is sort of weird as well. If you haven’t read the other, I would really recommend it. It’s really well written and as I said, kind of strange.
