Dueling Monsters, Round 2

Unpack those swords, because it’s time again for…

dueling monsters round 2 300x152 Dueling Monsters, Round 2

Yes, that’s right, Heather and I will be celebrating October and all things creepy by hosting another (hopefully) fun version of our Dueling Monsters read-a-long. If you weren’t around last year (or you forgot…I myself had to go back and read my own posts to remember what we did), Heather hosted a read-a-long of Frankenstein while I simultaneously hosted a read-along of Dracula. Personally, I think Dracula won the duel, but I’m a bit biased (so not a fan of Frank). Anyways…we had a lot of fun reading and comparing the books. And remember…when reading about monsters, it’s always safer to read with a friend, so we’re giving you the perfect opportunity to read these books!

This year, we’ll be reading about monsters of a different kind. Heather will be hosting Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, while I’m going to urge you all to read The Picture of Dorian Gray with me (and bonus! There’s a graphic novel version if you need a little incentive, although I’d encourage you to read the novel first (and double bonus! There’s a movie! We might just be having movie night on Twitter later in the month)).

dorian Dueling Monsters, Round 2

Just like last year, we’ll start the month with a little background info and some questions to consider as you read the book(s). Mid-month we’ll check in with all of the participants. And at the end of the month, we’ll post a wrap-up of the event. You will have all month to read one (or both) of the books and post your thoughts.

So whaddya say, are you in? If you’re interested in reading Dorian Gray with me, sign up with Mr. Linky below. If you’d rather get down with Jekyll and Hyde (or you’re feeling like an overachiever and want to read both), pop on over to Age 30+…A Lifetime of Books to sign up to read those other guys.

Even though I’m sure this won’t be as painful (or long) as The Brothers K, I’m hesitant to do another readlong with you. HAHA!

I had fun with Dueling Monsters last year, looking forward to doing it again this year.

BOTH?? I’ve seriously been debating for days and days since these posts went up, just to realize if I’d read them carefully enough, I’d find out I could sign up for BOTH? Oh man that’s definitely what I’m going to do!

I probably won’t go along and post every week or anything like that. I’ll probably just do a roundup dueling monsters post sometime during the month. I hope that’s okay. With the Bleak House readalong going on, I’m feeling too lazy for weekly posts.

  16. Trish says:

This is one readalong I’m not going to do with you. Because I’m siding with Heather. Muh haha ha ha. Well…I’m not committing until I finish the dang Brothers Karamazov (can I really read 200 pages this weekend???). I’ve read Dorian Gray, though, so I’m hoping I can be a true dueler. Although–graphic novel version does sound tempting!

I just finished reading Dorian Gray last month. That is one of my fav movies so I thought it was time that I read the book. Very, very different and a much deeper message than the movie. Wilde dug deep for that one:)

I know I’m late, but sign me up! I’m working through Dorian Gray right now, and I have to say, it’s not as easy a read as Jekyll/Hyde.
