Sunday Salon: Seeking My Silliness

TSSbadge11 Sunday Salon: Seeking My Silliness

I used to be a lot more fun. I wrote silly songs. Billy popped in occasionally. I wrote rants about monsters. Heck, I even channeled monsters.

Where did that blogger go?!?

Actually, I think she’s still around, I just need to drag her kicking and screaming out of hibernation. For some reason, this summer turned out to be a bit chaotic, although if I look back, I can’t really say why. I guess, sometimes, the little things can all combine to suck up the time and leave one feeling frazzled. And when frazzliness (my new word for the day) shows up, silliness apparently goes on vacation.

Amanda wrote a thoughtful post this morning about cutting back. And while I’m not saying that’s what I’ll be doing (wait, I already do it unintentionally on occasion), I do want to find that silliness that seems to have wandered off.

However, I do have a few things up my sleeve:

Dueling Monsters will return in October…this is when Heather and I hold simultaneous read-alongs to see who is the superior monster (and I’m not referring to Heather and me). This year she will be hosting Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and I’ll be hosting The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Also in October, I’ll be dusting off the pom-poms to cheerlead for the read-a-thon, which is on Saturday, October 9th. And I’ll be wrangling up the rest of the cheerleaders, so expect to see some begging posts in the future. In the meantime, you can check out the Read-a-Thon Cheerleading HQ blog for more info.

And since the read-a-thon always comes with a song, I have a few ideas for my next masterpiece.

Danielle and I will be meeting for lunch on the 2nd Saturday of each month. If you’re ever in San Luis Obispo, you’re welcome to join us (and yes, I’m looking at you, Gwen! And the rest of you, too). We set our date, and then promptly realized that it conflicts with the read-a-thon. But! Since we’ll both be cheerleading, we decided to find a coffeehouse to hang at, and if you’re a reader, you’ll be subjected to both of us together! We’re not really sure what we’re going to do, but I can guarantee there will be NO back flips involved. I’m sure Dawn is expecting me to dance around in go-go boots, but I’m not really sure what Danielle would think if her lunch date showed up in these:

Finally, I’ll leave you with this gem, for no other reason than it makes me laugh (although you might already be laughing at the image of me in those green boots), and laughter is good:

Funny thing is, I went into this post thinking, “Wow, this sounds like Jill’s thinking along the same lines as me” and then you mentioned my post… (though the link goes to some book club experiences?).

I’m glad you want to get your silliness back. You’ve long been the most funny (funniest?) blog I read. :)

  4. EL Fay says:

This is the second Sunday Salon I’ve read about being overwhelmed and wanting to cut back. I totally hear you. I had a ton of reading obligations to start out with and then I suddenly got a new job and had to move! I didn’t read or post a thing last week.

I am glad that you are bringing silly back…and blogging should be fun…I have only just started and I feel pressure to get books and post reviews that are not me…I think you have started a blogger’s revolt…we don’t really get paid…it is not a business…and it should be fun…I love fun!!!
I have promised myself not to enter any more contests that I don’t understand after reading them 10 times…

  8. I’ve been feeling the frazzeliness myself lately. I just don’t really feel like writing reviews or posting or commenting – I’ve been more content to just read a lot. I started The Woman Who Fell from the Sky yesterday, and so far, good book! The actual book cover is this crazy pink color that I was not expecting :)

I saw a bright polka dot dress and almost tried it on when I realized that I just didn’t have the right shoes to go with it… If only I had these boots!

  17. Ti says:

Having met you, I can honestly say that the boots may not be that farfetched afterall. You’ve got spunk (as Pippi Longstocking would say).

I don’t feel overwhelmed really, but I do feel that time if passing very quickly and when that happens, I get a bit nutty. I spent some time working on my calendar, updating it and all, but it didn’t help. I still feel nutty. Shush now. I can hear the muttering.

I kinda dig the boots, but then again, I have a thing for boots. I will be there with bells on and I may eve dig my cheerleader uniform out. Wait, there are few things more sorry than a woman in her 30′s trying to relive her high school days by wearing a short skirt and carrying pom-poms. I think I will pass.

    • Heather J. says:

Yes we are going to have new logos – yay! I already have the buttons made. :) They aren’t quite as cute as the Dracula/Frankenstien stick people from last year but they work. LOL

  21. Kari says:

You know how many posts I’ve read about bloggers feeling in a slump? I have majorly felt one. I blame summer. Because, to me at least, summer is those joyous months when I want to run through fields and hike up mountains and swim in any body of water. It’s like I need to constantly be moving to use up all that energy that built up during cold months of nothingness indoors. And when I move so much, it’s hard to sit still and read. Maybe our true reading selves just come out when it’s cold outside and we can be bundled up with a book indoors.
