Here It Comes, Yo

The readathon is coming! The readathon is coming! Woo-hoo!! If you’re a reader, you’ll see me around tomorrow…I’ll be the one waving the pom-poms and leaving cheesy cheers on your blog.

It’s somewhat of a tradition (at least in my mind) for me to mangle a song for the readathon. This time, I chose “The Choice Is Yours,” which may be familiar to you from this commercial:

Hamburger and I adore the commercial, but the lyrics to the real song leave something to be desired. So, I re-wrote them. This version is directed at those sneaky books who decide to hide.

The Choice Is Yours

Where’s my book at, what’s my book about?
Don’t know where it’s at, if you see my book, give a shout
Wasn’t on my shelf, wasn’t in my car
Know not where it is, did it go far?

Book, B-O-O-K, yes I’m calling for you
If you don’t come back soon, my mood will become very blue
Beginning, middle, that’s all I read
If I don’t find you, gonna read another book instead

Can I hear a hey? [Hey!]
Now get a yo! [Yo!]
You gotta hay? [Huh!]
Where did you go? [Oh!]

The writing isn’t hyphenated, the story is creative
But I’m so plaintive, it makes me vegetative
I got series on the shelf, Russians in the wings
Books everywhere around, I need the one missing
Guess, where you at, there? No!
Really wish you’d come back, oh woe!
Know you’ve seen the others, you’ve stared at their covers
But of course, the choice is yours

I can read with you, or I can read with that
I can read with you, or I can read with that
I can read with you, or I can read with that
I think you’ll come back to me, for this is where it’s at

Where’s the book at, where’s my book at
And yes, I looked for it where once I last sat
Watch me look for it here, watch me look for it there,
Because in fact, I know not where it’s at
Therefore I worry, hollow I feel inside
But I live with other books, they’ve got my back tonight

Ya know what I’m saying, yo book, I’m not playing
Need to read with you, or read with that with no delaying
See, in actuality, only one can it be,
I’m in the readathon, important it is to me
Any time my book goes missing, it mocks it
Any time you hide from me, I’m shell shock-ed

You’re such a fool, don’t think the ‘thon is cool
Watch me read, the other books are my fuel
I will rock the ‘thon while it’s still here to rock
Don’t need you, since you took a walk
Gotta go, gotta go, see you later with a cheer
I’ll shout loud so you can hear

I can read with you, or I can read with that
I can read with you, or I can read with that
I can read with you, or I can read with that
I think you’ll come back to me, for this is where it’s at
Now I can read with you, or I can read with that
I think you’ll get with this yes, for this is kinda fat
If you get with that, then you will surely miss,
Because that is so whack, I think you’ll get with this

Awesome! I’ve never seen that video before. Quite enjoyable…though your lyrics are much better. The next step would be to rent hamster costumes and redo the video…

Now that you’ve entered the world of Rap, you need a rap-ish nick to go along with it. J-Fizz or J to the ill.
