Hello readathoners, and welcome to the Hour 9 Mini-Challenge! (At least I hope it’s hour 9…math has never been my thing.)

Allow me to introduce myself…I’m Jill, your head cheerleader. It’s my job to coordinate all of the wonderful cheerleaders who have been running around leaving supportive remarks on your blogs today. I’ve also been popping up here and there to leave silly comments. So it seems only fitting that this challenge is all about cheering.

Yay!!!!!!!!!!

ratcheer1 Shake Your Pom Poms

Oops, sorry. Had to stop for a few virtual back flips and cartwheels.

I’m currently hanging out in a local coffee shop with two of my cheerleading posse, Danielle of There’s a Book and Gwen from Chew & Digest Books. We’re having fun with this cheerleading bizness and want you to join in the fun! If you’ve never done it, virtual cheerleading is an absolute blast, and strangely addictive. It’s also a good excuse to overuse exclamation marks. (And yes, I’m trying to recruit you for the next readathon.)

Here is your assignment:

  • Compose a bookish cheer and post it to your blog between hours 9 and 12.
  • Come back here and leave a link to your post in the handy-dandy Mr. Linky.
  • Take a few extra minutes to stop by a few blogs and share the joy of cheerleading. No, you don’t get extra points for this, but you will have the undying gratitude of your fellow readers.

Need some ideas? Find a poem and change the words. Or google cheerleading to see what you find…and alter the words. (We cheerleaders are all about finding inspiration elsewhere.) Post a picture of you being a cheerleader. Or, go all out and compose a song. If rhyming ain’t your thing, write a letter. I’m easy…I just want you all to share some love and encouragement! Just make sure that your poem/song/picture/cheer is bookish in nature.

However, if you’re the competitive type, a little birdie told me that Trish might just vlog a cheer…in her slanket. Beat that.

I’ll pick a random winner from all of the participants. The winner will receive a book of their choice from The Book Depository (any book, as long as it’s US$20 or less). Or, if someone can figure out if The Book Depository does gift cards, then a $20 gift card.  The good news is, they ship worldwide for free, so this challenge is open to everyone. Everyone participating in the readathon, that is.

Now…go forth and cheer!

It’s so nice when cheerleaders stop by to visit. This is a great challenge to come up with some reading-related cheers that our stalwart cheerleaders can use to keep us readers motivated.

  15. Lynne says:

    We’re reading all day
    Because we’re nuts
    A screw loose maybe
    And we’ve got sore butts

    One page at a time
    And then a whole book
    We order pizza
    No time to cook!

    We don’t need sleep
    We’re having a ball
    Toothpicks are used
    When the eyelids fall

    We eat and read
    And read and eat
    Let’s go ‘thoners
    We can’t be beat!

I just wanted to thank you for coordinating the cheerleaders’ group. Next year, I may devote my day to cheering and knitting. Also, I will definitely prepare lots of good quotes for posting during the day.

I have added all the readers’ blogs to my Google Reader list so now I’m going to review the books they read and add the most interesting ones to my neverending must-read list.

Just a quick note to say THANK YOU for all of your cheers and encouragement during the Read-a-thon. You were, by far, my greatest cheerleader, and seeing your comments pop up through the day and night really did give me such a boost to keep reading. You have a gift, girl! You’re a big part of what made my first experience with the read-a-thon such an enjoyable one.
