I don’t even know how to describe this book, so I’m only going to say a few things, and then leave you with a cartoon, which will make no sense in relation to the book unless you’ve read it.

This is sort of a dystopian-magical book, set in Africa. It was very interesting, and very different, although I would’ve liked more back story (how did we get to a future like that?? Or is it an alternate reality??). I loved the characters, though, and the magical shape-shifting. I just spent most of the book wondering about the past, which was a bit of a barrier for my overall enjoyment.

Also, I love the cover. Now, on to the camels…

I think we should have a new meme: one day a week, book reviews have to be in the form of Savage Chickens comic strips. I love it! :)

This book does sound interesting and unusual. I will have to get a closer look at it. Thanks for the great review and the cartoon!

  5. I just finished a book that made me feel the same way – I wanted more of the back story.

Wouldn’t it be easier to ask who DOESN’T fear death?

I do love the cover. I’ve heard really good things about Okorafor’s young adult fantasy novels. Oh, drooling camels..yuck!

LOL! That is intriguing, it is sad they don’t work on the back story better. Were-camels are scary LOL!

Hehehe I don’t understand at all, you are right. But I want to read the book. So after I read it, I will come back and laugh at the cartoon?
