…Margaret Atwood is a literary goddess.
I seem to have jumped the gun on The Handmaid’s Tale readalong that Florinda is hosting, but I’m not going to post about it until it’s time. However, I do need tell you all that for once my memory didn’t fail me. The book really is all that AND a bag of chips. In fact, it’s so good I will most likely finish it before the readalong even starts.

Yes, she is! Every time I read one of Margaret Atwood’s books, I think, “Yes, this is why I read.” She’s always amazing.
Agreed! Though an interesting tidbit I heard somewhere: she really doesn’t like that book being classified as dystopian or post-apocalyptic and resists the whole science fiction label. Which I find fascinating. If it isn’t that, what is it?
I reread this earlier this year for a book club and was blown away (again) by how fantastic it is. So much better than her recent work, sad to say.
I haven’t even tried her yet..
Wow. That’s quite an endorsement. I’m looking it up.
I love this book too, so I can understand why you will probably blow through this one at lightning speed. I need to reread.
I’ve not read it (please don’t judge…I intend to before I die), but I’ve been nudging my book club to pick it up to speed things along.
I really want to reread this one too but am overcommitted at the moment… (and by “bag of chips” I assume you meant chocolate chips, yes?)
I can’t even imagine reading this book at a slow pace. I could not put it down when I read it and was totally blown away.
I read it a billion years ago in high school. I remember being completely blown away, but I am certain that I only barely understood it. I keep thinking I should read it again, but probably not this year.
Interestingly Atwood has become embroiled in a fight with our buffoon right-wing mayor here in TO. Mayor Ford is proposing closing libraries to save money (who needs libraries – no one needs libraries) and Atwood has taken to her twitter feed to protest the closings. Picking a fight with someone who has a razor-edge command of the English language is just stupid. The fall out for the mayor has been a joy to watch and read.
I havent read her… I have this book and I want to read it so badly… but unsure if I can commit to the time… Lame… I know
I haven’t read this since it came out! I wonder if it’ll be the same for me — I was amazed by it!
Yep, she is a literary goddess. One I have to be in just the right mood to read, though. Loved The Handmaid’s Tale, and it’s one I need to revisit.
why is it that i always feel like i’m the only book blogger *not* reading certain books or authors? i see all these great posts, reviews, and tweets about authors and books and think, “how the heck did i miss this boat, too?” i guess my new motto will be ‘better to read it late than to never read it…’
Never read her. Now I feel like I’m missing something.

After reading WHEN SHE WOKE by Hillary Jordan last week, I feel I really, really, REALLY need to give this another try. I think, no, I know, I’m too narrow-minded when it comes to Margaret Atwood. But serious, she scares the poop outta me!

One of those I’d so love to read again one day. I LOVE Atwood but space out my reading of her books in fear that one day I’ll run out and have nothing new to read by her. So ridiculous.

Well, yes, yes she is. I haven’t read Handmaiden for years, but it is still in my head.

I loved The Handmaid’s Tale. I wouldn’t mind a reread of it some day. I was just thinking tha I haven’t read an Atwood book in a while and I should. I have a few on my shelf.

Precisely!I really love her book and I keep on reading it even if I’m done with it. Just love the content of it. So to those who haven’t read it I encourage all of you to spend some time reading it. You will surely love it the way I do.
