I had this song in my head the entire time I was reading Madame Bovary. It pretty much says everything there is to say about the novel, especially after I changed a few words here and there. Although fair warning: there’s a spoiler at the end of the song.
(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction (originally sung by the Rolling Stones)
I can’t get no satisfaction,
I can’t get no satisfaction.
So I whine and I pout and I moan and I faint.
I can’t get no, I can’t get no.
When I’m sittin’ in my chair
With my husband next to me
And he’s talkin’ on and on
About some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination.
I can’t get no, oh no no no.
Hey hey hey, that’s what I say.
I can’t get no satisfaction,
I can’t get no satisfaction.
’cause I’m never happy, yes I’m a total bitch.
I can’t get no, I can’t get no.
When I’m havin’ an affair
And that man comes on to me
About how beautiful I can be.
Well he can’t be a man ’cause he don’t know
Who I really want to be.
I can’t get no, oh no no no.
Hey hey hey, that’s what I say.
I can’t get no satisfaction,
I can’t get a man with action.
’cause I think I’m better than all of this.
I can’t get no, I can’t get no.
When I’m dreamin’ about the world
And I’m buyin’ this and I’m buyin’ that
And I’m tryin’ to find some man
Who tells me baby I can give you better
But you can see I’m on a losing streak.
So I buy and I buy and I buy.
And I buy, and then I die.
I can’t get no, I can’t get no,
I can’t get no satisfaction,
No satisfaction, no satisfaction, no satisfaction

It’s lovely to wake up on Saturday morning to a song about Madame Bovary, and once again, I applaud your creativity! Thanks for making me smile.

Genius!! So funny.
And I was wondering if I could request a song parody from you? It is based on the title of my recent book hoarding post, “If I Were A Hoarder.” (and what I hoard is books, of course). The song tune, of course, is “If I Were A Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof. I just think you could make it something amazing. No pressure though.
