Wrapping up the books

Lu recently posted some brilliant mini reviews to talk about books that got overlooked during the year. And I thought it was a nifty idea. Then Trisha did it (and I’m still laughing about hot vampire sex). And then so did Kim, at which point I decided this was a trend I needed to get on board with. icon biggrin Wrapping up the books

Most of these are books I read in November and December and am feeling too lazy to write a more thorough post on, but the first book I read way back in June. I did talk about the author event I attended, and I think that’s why I never did a proper post on the actual book.

Joy for Beginners, Erica Bauermeister – The book was just as entertaining as the author was in person. And I mean that in a good way.

The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratt, Caroline Preston – Even though this book is in a (beautiful) collage format, there’s a lot of story included. I was impressed and entertained.

The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories – I read this in the bookstore, and still bought it, it’s that much fun. My favorite tiny story (pardon the non-tiny thumb):

Everything Beautiful Began After, Simon Van Booy – Once I got past the sometimes overly poetic prose, I was sucked into the story. It sort of reminded me of Waiting for Columbus, but in a very different way.

Tolstoy and the Purple Chair, Nina Sankovitch – a little heavy on the grief, but still some awesome passages about reading.

I still have a few posts scheduled for next week that are about books I read this year, but with the writing of this post (if not the posting of this post) I am officially caught up on bookish thoughts for 2011 and am ready to dive into my 2012 reading!

Trisha’s post was hysterical and having read some of those books she summed it up perfectly! I love the picture book that you shared. I must hunt it down.

I have a couple of books that made my best of list that I haven’t actually wrote reviews of, so they weren’t included in my best of list, and that made me a little sad. Especially because one of them was the best book of the year for me. I am thinking that a post like this might have been the perfect way to address that problem! Great list of mini-reviews today!

A lovely trend, indeed! I was not aware you had read some of these (I stalk you, but not very well, perhaps). I really wish you would update your goodreads more (cough cough hint hint) but anyway. LOVE THESE! I was going to attempt to mini-rev my un-revieweds but it was getting me down instead of up and I didn’t want my last post of the year to be a downer.
