Le Road Trip

It’s been over a month (April 27th to be exact…I looked) since I wrote a post dedicated to a particular book. So I thought I’d take it easy on myself and start with a book I adored:

Le Road Trip
Vivian Swift
April 2012
208 pages of pure awesomeness

You all know I love to travel, right? Consequently, I’m a sucker for books about travel, even though they usually make me green with envy. And even though I’m not a huge fan of France (actually, that’s not entirely true…it’s really Paris that doesn’t float my boat), I still finished this book green with envy.

But in this case it was over the author’s artistic talent. This is a gorgeous book. Go check out this video that features art work and text from the book. GO, I said.

Yes, the author wrote and illustrated every damn page of this book (gawd, I wish I could do that). She even designed the hand-lettered type.

As I said. Green.

Swift is an experienced traveller, but this is more of a combo honeymoon/trip to France journal, in which the author reflects on relationships and travel. She has a great attitude about travel, and if you are ever looking for a book to get you excited about a trip (especially to France), this would be the one.

Oh … so very cool. I’m green with envy too.

But – this book looks completely awesome. Going to have to check it out.

I don’t really need to be green with envy, but I am thinking I should read this anyway. :)

I loved this book. LOOOOOOVVVED! I wanted to disappear inside it. It was definitely less introspective than her first book, and more humorous and informative. I almost split a gut when she was talking about her and her husband fighting about trying to find those old stones!!!!

I am in a constant state of readiness for any trip to France. :)

  10. Jenny says:

I’m so impressed with people who can write and draw. I can write, just about, but I can’t even draw, like, a chair. I am definitely getting this at the library! Did you ever read French Milk? It’s another illustrated memoir about a trip to France, and I am fond of it.

This sounds like a book that I would really enjoy, even if it does make me want to travel even though that is really not possible at the moment. Nothing like a bit of mental torture to keep things interesting!
