Travel update

While I was off not-blogging, I read (some), but I also plotted adventures. Although I won’t be going anyplace new or exotic, I have made definite plans to:

Go to Hawaii. Specifically, the North Shore in December. This will be our (our being me and Burger Boy) fourth trip to watch the pro surfers surf big, scary waves. We scored cheap flights (Allegiant Air just started direct flights from Santa Maria (about 45 minutes south of us) to Honolulu…yahoo!). And I found a studio apartment to rent…with the all important beach cruisers included. So we’ll be spending the two weeks before Christmas peddling around the North Shore and hanging out at the beach. I. Can’t. Wait.

Go to HB’s family reunion this summer. In Sunriver, Oregon. Again. But hey…it’s a cheap vacation, and I love Oregon.

Go to Vegas, baby. This will be a very quick trip in October to see a Cirque du Soleil show. My mom and her friend will be on their way home from a mountain bike trip (my mom rocks) and I’m going to fly over (again, thanks to Allegiant Air and their cheapo flights) to meet up and then drive home with them…the next day. As I said, a quick trip. But I’m a whore for Cirque du Soleil shows. (We’ll be seeing Zumanity, if you were wondering.)

Go to Booktopia. This is also in October, in Santa Cruz.

Go to Santa Cruz. Yes, for Booktopia. But it’s also where I am this very minute, since it’s HB’s birthday (I’ll rat him out…he’s 46).  We’re gonna ride the roller coaster at the Boardwalk (a tradition with us in Santa Cruz) and then maybe ride the old train through the mountains. Woo-woo.

It makes me very happy to have my vacations all planned out for the rest of the year. While spur of the moment trips are fun, I like to have something to look forward to.

How about you…got any fun vacation plans?

  1. Allegiant Air flies here too. I had hoped to use them to fly to Naples, Fl in September but it won’t work for me since they don’t fly every day of the week. I hope you have a blast on all your trips.

Wow, so many fantastic trips! Sounds like it will be a ton of fun. My cousins have a beach house in Santa Cruz and may be at Booktopia as well, I would assume – they own a bookstore in Sonora :)

Yay, what great travel plans! I’ve still never been to Hawaii, but I’m sure if I lived on the West Coast, I’d head there every chance I got! Sounds like you got a great deal on the apartment you’re renting!

It’s just so nice to see that you have such a full year ahead of you in terms of travel! I hope you’ll post about all of these trips as they crop up!

Sounds like you have fantastic plans for travel! Cirque is so amazing though I’ve only seen 2 of them. How do you fly to Vegas on Allegiant, through Santa Maria? We’re going in November and I’d love to find easier flying than out of LA (Burbank was SUPER expensive this past November)

I fell completely in love with Oregon when I was there last month, and I can only imagine it’s even more amazing in the summer and fall. Sounds like you’ve got great trips coming up! I am leaving a week from today for a trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone – very excited about it!

I would love to go to Oregon one day!

We’ve already had our cruise, so our only other vacation this year will be a trip back up to Wisconsin to see the in-laws later this summer. And, if one of my favorite bands FINALLY gets the new album out, and then has a concert, I do plan to travel to NYC alone just for that concert. :D

I think we share a wisp of the same spirit Jill! We are big travelers, however for the next six years it won’t be quite as plentiful as in the past because of high school commitments with the kids. Still, every other year we go to Poland (next trip in 2013), and every summer we spend time at my parents’ farm in Indiana. This year we are first going to stay on Lake Michigan for a week prior to farm time. Hubby and I are also celebrating 20 year of marriage, and are hoping to go to Caramel for golf, wine and carousing. Also doing Boston on a field trip with my son!!

Oh you’ve got some good ones planned!!!! My husband is the same way … he likes to plan the trips so he knows what he has to look forward to. Otherwise, he can’t stand going to work. Sad … but it is how he get through.

I am a whore for Vegas in general, but every time I go, I make sure to see a Cirque show. We need more.

Nice. The universe keeps giving me sly “Hawaii” hints (like YOUR mentioning it?) but not sure about anything this year. We will probably need to see Kansas/Nebraska to see all the parents but nothing is scheduled.

  11. I have no travel plans, whatsoever. Disappointing. But, we might get to go back to London in the fall. London is my favorite big city and I guess you could call me a West End whore, since we try to squeeze in as much theatre as we can afford, whenever we’re there.

My mother spent her high school years in the Pacific Northwest and I’ve never been there. Not to the Yakima Valley, where she lived. Not to Oregon. Le sigh. I really would like to go there. I have a feeling my camera would like the PNW.

Sounds like a wonderful year for travel! I love Oregon as well. I visited for the first time in 2010 and thought it was gorgeous! I’m with you on the planning trips. I swear half of the fun is the planning and anticipating the actual trip. I’m looking forward to a weekend in Wisconsin, another in Chicago this year and a big roadtrip all the way to Glacier Park in Montana. Can’t wait!

So fun! Have fun in Hawaii! I’ve never been. I have also never been to a Cirque du Soleil show. I am so lame. Your mom mountain bikes?! That is awesome. She totally does rock.

We always have our trips planned as well. We sort of have to with the kid’s school schedules. I get to go to Portland next month (without the kiddos–woohoo!). We’ll also be doing our trip home to San Diego for a week then spending some time near Zion’s camping. We’ll also do Wales in September and Madrid/Barcelona in October.

Very jealous of all the great fun you have planned! I love to have things planned in advance and have them to look forward to – with a new job this year, unfortunately I have so few days off there’s no time to do much. Have fun!
