This and that

You’ve probably read some/where by now that I got to meet up with Amy, Florinda, Ti and OJ a few weekends ago.

Amy, Jill (OJ, not this one), Florinda, and Ti

We had great fun talking books while drinking coffee-ish beverages, and then talking books while eating lunch, and then talking books while wandering around B&N. We also admired gold butts:

As always, it was fun to see everyone and talk and talk and talk about books.

I’m generally pretty bad about responding to comments, but I’ve been even worse than lately. Worse, as in not at all. So this is a collective reply to:

1. The general agreement about my thoughts on Gone Girl. If you haven’t read it, you should. Even if you think it might not be your thing. I’m generally not a fan of books like that, but this one was just brilliantly done (at least I thought so…and evidently most of you did, too). Also, there’s going to be a movie. Woo-hoo! I think we all need to meet up for movie night. Wouldn’t that just be the awesome-est? I think Denver is sort of centrally located, and rumor has it the bookstore there opens early.

2. Your hilarious (and poignant) (and also sometimes slightly disturbing) stories on running away from home. Thank you for sharing. I got a kick out of all of them.

3. The pucker post, which I followed up with this post on tumblr for #photoadayjuly (the prompt was open). Evidently, you all worry when I make too many weird faces. Trust me, I’m no weirder than usual. I just usually hide it better.

Tomorrow I’m going to post my last song for The Stand Standalong. It doesn’t really give anything away, but it does allude to what happens later in the book. Fair warning.

I’m having way too much fun with Instagram.

In two weeks I’ll be on vacation in Oregon. Yay! Even if it’ll be too far from Powell’s. <insert frownie face here> I was going to save Shadow of Night for vacation reading, but then I re-thought that decision (I have a small problem with waiting). So now I’m considering what books to take with me (luckily we’re driving, so space is NOT an issue). I’m pretty sure Language of Flowers will go along for the ride…too bad The Twelve isn’t out yet, though! Any suggestions?

I am totally up for a Denver meet-up. And I am still horribly jealous of your geographic proximity to other bloggers:-)

  3. So many awesome people in one place! I wish I could have been there with you. And I’m also very jealous of anyone who has fellow bloggers nearby :P

How lucky are you to have met up with some of my favorite bloggers? Have you read Whiplash River? I just finished it — a fun vacation read.

  5. Kailana says:

How fun! All my time blogging and I have never met another blogger…

  6. Sandy says:

I heard Reese Witherspoon is directing? Which, I don’t know, I’m skeptical. But we will see. I love Blogger get-togethers. There is never a moment of quiet, everybody all talking over each other. Amazing when we all come from different places, different backgrounds. But we all love books and that is OK.

I think The Language of Flowers is a really great book for you to take on your trip. I loved the hell out of that book. Also, it was fun to share my running away story with someone after so long. I never tell anyone that story, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. And finally, YAY! You got the chance to meet up with some amazing bloggers, and I giggled that you had a great time admiring gold butts. Sounds like a perfect time was had by all.

  8. THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS!!!! Because I HAVE TO READ IT super fast for next Thursday’s book club meeting. But that doesn’t work because you won’t be on vacation at that time. SHIT!

  9. Melissa says:

I’m in the middle of Gone Girl right now, yowza. Have a blast is Oregon, it’s gorgeous!

  10. I might be able to swing Denver. :-) I hope you have a great time in Oregon! I would love to get out of town for a while–somewhere not with obligatory family to visit, that is! Ssh! Don’t tell my family I said that.

Meeting book bloggers and seeing golden butts … what could be better?
And Gone Girl could make a wicked cool movie. I hope they get it right!!!

  12. Alyce says:

Enjoy your vacation time in Oregon! The weather up here has been pretty mild recently and that is not a complaint. :)

  13. Lisa says:

Fourth accounting of the BLAH gathering and, what a surprise, you’re the only one who mentioned gold butts! See you definitely get something new from every witness.

If you guys are ever in Cleveland I hope you stop by :) Of course now that Jason is jobless we’ll see how long we’re here. Who knows where we’ll end up. We could end up on your side of the country :)
