Just do IT: the IT-along starts now

feel free to grab this button or make your own!

Cue the circus music…the IT-along is on!

Since we have some people who are already reading/listening, we decided to go ahead and start. But don’t worry, we’re still giving you plenty of time to read this Chunky McChunkster…2 months of time, to be exact.

Here is everything you need to know (and if it isn’t, just ask…we’ll make something up!):

Who: Princess Clown Nose and I will be your ring leaders.

What: We’re reading Stephen King’s IT. You can read it, or listen to it, or heck, even watch the film version. Whatever floats your boat. But please think about joining us…our goal is to make this fun! (Because rumor has it, it’s one scary-ass book.)

When: Now through October 14th. Like Trish’s Standalong (why mess with a good thing), we’ll be doing a mid-way check-in, as well as a final post.
(Basically, this whole adventure is because of The Standalong. We heart Trish so much, we decided to torture her and make her keep reading Stephen King. (Also, getting ahead of myself, but I want to mention this since I’ll most likely forget…I really think we should consider The Shining next. Only because I so want to use the hashtag #shineon.))

Suggested reading/posting schedule (don’t worry, we won’t kick you out of the clown car if you don’t stick to it):

  • Sunday, September 16th: read through Part 3, but not the Third Interlude,  and post your thoughts. In my copy, this is page 608 of 1098, making it slightly more than halfway.
  • Sunday, October 14th: finish, and post your final thoughts.

Where: Both here and on Princess Clown Nose’s blog, Reading Thru The Night. I will post here with Mr. Linkies on 9/16 and 10/14 so you can link up to your mid-way and final posts. If you’re on twitter, we’re using #italong for any IT-related tweets. And just like the past few weeks, we will continue with the occasional clownish interlude (including encouraging you all to post your clown nose pics after the noses arrive!)

Why: Because clowns are fun! And there’s safety in numbers! And because you know you want a clown nose (but supplies are limited, so make sure you hurry on over to the Princess’s blog and email her). Also, because King’s is pretty entertaining, even if his books are ridiculously long.

Many of you have already stated your intent to join in (and we love you for it!), but I’m going to ask you to officially sign up here (yes, that includes you, Trish’s mom…we want you to read it, too!), so we have all of your names and blogs (if you have one) on this official starting post. You can just link to your blog, but if you do write a post about joining us, be sure to link to it so we can all stop by with our condolences. Wait…I mean encouragement!!

    #Shineon ((((Love it))))

And it’s also good to note that it’s, like, half the length.

I’ve got FIVE noses left and Di thinks we’re absolutely crazy. She keeps asking me when the noses will get mailed. I think it’s because she’s a wee bit scared that so many of them are sitting in our sock drawer. I mean, it DOES kinda look creepy.

  5. I’ll be starting this weekend! SO EXCITED! Cannot wait. Am afraid of the dark. Clowns. Small cars. Oh, well.

I’d love to do a readalong for The Shining but I already read it. :( Actually, I listened to the audiobook read by Campbell Scott which. was. AWESOME. I highly recommend that over reading it. He was friggin’ scary!

I’m in. Got my book yesterday and will write a post soon. But I don’t think I’ll be able to start for another week or two. :( Stupid bookclubs and readalongs. Oh wait–this is a readalong too. D’oh.

I might be tempted into a #shineon but have seriously gotta take a break after we do monsters in October…Otherwise I think I’ll have totally overachieved on my goal of 24 books for this year. :)

  9. Wrighty says:

I read this many (many) years ago and it scared the crap out of me just like all of Stephen King’s books! Loved it! And i used to like clowns…

These were some of my first adult books as a teen because my mom was reading them too. The Shining is still one of the scariest books (and movies) I’ve ever read. *shivers* I’m a bit behind on King’s most recent novels so I have some catching up to do. They have been added to my already very long TBR list!

I might have to pop back in for the discussions if that’s allowed. Enjoy, everyone!

Still looking at the massive book on my desk. Wondering if it’s even possible for me to read 600 pages in a month plus the 2 other books for tours I’ve got coming up. I will be sitting by a lake next week with babysitters at the ready though. I think I must join. If I don’t do it now I will never read this thing!

  11. I hope I don’t fail miserably at this. As Michelle said, I must be crazy, but I simply can’t resist! Thanks for hosting.

I’d be totally down for #shineon, if it comes about. :)

I bought the book yesterday and started reading it. I also bought really good batteries for my book light although I think I’ll be putting on the overhead light late at night after a few more chapters! Ack!

I’d love to read The Shining!

I’m not sure what I’ve gotten myself into, but I should be getting my copy from the library next week. I think I can make it through as long as I read in the daylight.
