Today is the start of Banned Books Week. A few weeks ago I was wondering what I could read to commerorate the occasion, because…
But then I realized I already was reading a banned book. And you can, too!
If you are looking for the perfect book with which to celebrate Banned Books Week, I recommend American Psycho. Trust me on this. If there is ever a book that might incite a brief thought of book banning in a person who is normally staunchly opposed to such things, this would be it. So you can celebrate Banned Books Week by being all conflicted!
Even Stephen King had somethin’ to say about it. Go. Go read.
And then go sign up for Dueling Monsters. Do it for the banned books.

I totally forgot about Banned Books Week! While I think it’s more of a marketing ploy than anything else, as books aren’t *really* banned here, it is still cool to read books that have offended people
Oh I do love that man. Good thing they weren’t banning him in my local library (and that my parents didn’t care what I read) back in middle school, because those were the books of my youth, I tell you. And this American Psycho. I need to look into that one.

I saw the movie American Psycho and can’t imagine why anyone would want to ban the book.

I love how consistent you are in pushing your latest read, lol.

Yes, this is a book that definitely pushes the envelope and makes you think, if just for a moment, about legitimate reasons for book banning.
I’m looking forward to finishing and reviewing American Psycho.
No, this trick will not get me to read dueling monsters. LOL

Honestly at this point I’m kind of skerd to read American Psycho. Though I’m not sure if that will be more nightmare inducing than Red Dragon? I dunno…I need something light to read!

So not happening. Wonder what I’ve managed to unpack that’s been banned or challenged, though. I do finally have a few hundred books out on the shelves. ‘Bout time!
Everyone is seeming kind of traumatized by American Psycho. Now I am regretting accepting your kind offer. I’m scared!

I still don’t know about American Psycho. It’s not really the book itself. I read 2 other books by Bret Easton Ellis and just didn’t care for them.

Now that I’ve read it, I can understand why American Psycho has been on so many banned lists. It definitely makes sense given the disturbing and degrading acts towards women. However, what Easton Ellis has to say about our materialistic society is pitch perfect and deserves an award, IMO. It may be one of the most horrifying books I have ever read, but I cannot help but still tout how much I loved it. Yay for banned books!
