Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

It’s Monday night, the end of my weekend, and I have nothing much to show for it except, get this…

33 hours of sleep.

That’s right, I said 33. Not consecutive, but I did get in 12 hours Friday night, followed by some Saturday naps, followed by two more nights of ten hour sleeps.

I don’t think I’ve slept that much since I had mono in high school.

It was awesome. (The sleep, not the mono. Mono pretty much blows chunks. (And did I ever tell you that HB was in a band in high school named The Chunks? I know…so gross!) (And even worse…my brother was in a band last year that almost named themselves My Dog’s Junk. That’s just wrong.) (Okay, enough of Band Names Gone Wrong.))

Anyhoosie, I’m pretty sure the excessive sleeping was because of the little cold I was fighting (or a supremely wicked case of allergies…who knows). But, the cold/allergies/whatever is gone and tomorrow it’s back to work. Although I’m betting it’s going to be really hard to get up on time!

In book land, I did manage to finish Judging a Book by Its Lover (snarkily great) and get a good way into The Wisdom of Psychopaths (I can’t quite seem to get away from those psychopaths). I’m also listening to Under the Dome (verdict so far: Big Jim is a total and complete asswipe and I’m kinda in love with Barbie (who is a guy, not a doll)).

I should also be starting Bleak House, since I somehow agreed to participate in a readalong. And call me crazy, but I’m also considering joining in the readalong for The Count of Monte Cristo (two chunksters in two months…yikes!).

And it seems like there is strong interest in the readalong of The Shining that we mentioned during the #IT-along (speaking of which, I really need to remove the button from my sidebar…will someone please remind me??). So yes, there will be a #ShineOn. I’m leaning towards February (let’s get the holidays way out of the way before diving back into the horror, yes?). How does that work for everyone? Short month, fairly short novel by King standards, so we should be able to scare ourselves shitless in just 28 days.

Also, I saw Christmas decorations up at Kohl’s today. Just had to share the exceptional wrongness of that experience. Although…if Starbucks were to bring out the Peppermint Mochas tomorrow, I wouldn’t mind. I know…I make no sense. And the more sleep I’ve had, the less sense I make!

Okay, quitting now, so I can go read more of what you all have been up to.

P.S.: If anyone on the East Coast still has power and is reading this…stay safe!!!

I did that once, the first Christmas I came back from college. I literally slept for 12 hours 3 days in a row. It was pretty awesome.

  2. Brooke says:

I’m jealous of your sleepy times! I’ve pretty much been an insomniac for the past couple of weeks. Good luck with the two chunksters! Monte Cristo is a lot of fun, but Bleak House took some work.

  3. JoAnn says:

The Count of Monte Cristo is an excellent book… I think you’d really like it. Daughter#1 is now without power in Manhattan and Twin A is riding out the storm in her dorm room. I’ll be up all night worrying about them!

  4. Chris says:

Oh all of that sleep sounds SO amazing right now. I’m trying to convince myself right now that I DON’T have mono because I swear I could sleep for like 30 hours straight right now…ah that would be lovely..the good news is, no work til 3 tomorrow!! Woohoo!!! And I MAY just finally join y’all for the Shining read along!! Someone somewhere is hosting a War and Peace readalong..or considering it…Amy maybe? And I’m considering that too..I know…craziness!! But I have such a beautiful copy that I’ve been wanting to read forever!!

  5. Michelle says:

33 hours of sleep?!? I am insanely jealous!

The Count of Monte Cristo is an amazing novel, but I really loved Bleak House. Both are fun in such different ways. Enjoy!

Count me in for #shineon! I already have it downloaded and ready to go!!

  6. bybee says:

Wouldn’t it be great if you could save up the sleep you got in a little bank account then you could draw it out when you needed to?

  7. DianecomD D says:

As my mom always said, if you didn’t need the sleep you wouldn’t have slept that much. Lol
We are fine strong winds but no power loss thankfully.

  8. Kristi says:

Yay for sleep, but whenever I get lots of sleep, I seem to feel more tired.

And The Count of Monte Cristo…DO IT. I managed to somehow sign up for both so you should to.

The Christmas thing BUGS me. I don’t want to think about it until after Thanksgiving, but they’ve had Christmas stuff at Costco since September (maybe as early as August–I can’t remember). Not okay.

  9. Amanda says:

I have to tell you, I am REALLY looking forward to reading your thoughts about Bleak House. :D

    I hope you’re feeling better!

33 Hours of sleep sounds like just what I need right now. I have been sick for two weeks, and I am really wanting to get less congested and get some sleep, plus, when I sleep, I don’t cough!! Lucky you! I hope you enjoyed every moment.

  11. Jennygirl says:

You must have been WAY behind on your sleep. your body obviously needed it. Hope you feel better :)

Yay for joining! And just for that, as much as King and I don’t get along, I will try The Shining with you in February. Also Count of Monticristo…read it several years ago, but it’s one of my all time favorites. Enjoyed the movie version too with what’s his name that played JC, and is now in Person of Interest.

Hope you have a fantastic week!

  12. Care says:

No, I cannot submit to any peer pressure to Count Monte Cristo, no.

My area of Mass seems to be just fine. Did find out that the water did get to our boat but not enough to float it off the stands – whew! but boy-oh-boy, NYC is going to be a mess for awhile.

  13. Beth F says:

Sleep? What’s that? I’d grab one of those Peppermint Mochas too. I saw Christmas stuff up somewhere when Mr. BFR and I were stocking up on batteries … can’t remember where.

  14. Ti says:

The Chunks?? Didn’t think that could be topped until you shared what your brother almost called his band.

  15. Colleen says:

wow -that is a lot of sleep! Hope you are feeling better – it is amazing how sleep helps a body recover.

  16. Jenners says:

33 hours of sleep is my dream weekend!
We made it through Sandy safe and sound … thank goodness. But others nearby were not so lucky.

  17. I saw Christmas stuff up at Target in the middle of October. It was terrible! I’m going to try to do the Bleak House readalong too — I have the book and an audio book, so no excuses!

  18. Alyce says:

Not fun that you were dealing with cold/allergies, but very awesome to be able to get that much sleep! I’m living on coffee right now and about 5 hours sleep each night the last four nights (my hubby has had a fever and trouble sleeping so I offered to let him have the bed and I’ve been sleeping on the couch – kitties are not happy and have been dancing on everything trying to get me off the couch).

  19. Trish says:

Someone mentioned red cups at Starbucks this morning so maybe the Peppermint Mocha is back?

Yup, count me in for February. If I can brave IT, I can brave anything. Actually, I’ve heard The Shining truly is scary but I’ll have three months to pull up my big girl pants.

And yay Bleakalong! You are INSANE for also attempting CoMC at the same time. :)

  20. Debi says:

They say laughing is one of the best stress relievers there is. I’ve decided your blog is my new go-to stress reliever! Since I started reading here recently, I’ve been so irked with myself that I didn’t discover it sooner. But I’ve decided now that it’s a good thing–now I’ve got lots of back reading to do. :D I seriously think you should write one of those hilarious essay collections…you’d be instantly wealthy! And then maybe you could sleep 33 hours every weekend. :) `

  21. Samantha says:

I definitely will be participating in reading The Shining even though just thinking about it freaks me out. I need to get back into IT…I fell behind and haven’t finished yet. Yikes!

A weekend of gorging oneself on sleep is always a good thing. :-)

33 hours is close to my weekly ration of sleep :(
