This is really just a continuation of my blatherings from earlier in the week.

I am all recovered, but I passed on my cold to Hamburger. The germs took no mercy on him and he’s been sick since Wednesday. He’s over it, and I’m over it. He is NOT a pleasant sicko. He’s of the attitude that the world is conspiring against him.

Oh well. At least we’ll be well for Hawaii! Some of you asked where we’re going. We’ll be on the North Shore of Oahu for 2 weeks, watching the pro surfers surf Pipeline. We also have plans to do some hiking (nothing hardcore), ride the bike path on the beach cruisers that come with the little studio we rented, and just relax. This will be our fourth trip to the North Shore (and 6th trip to the Hawaiian islands).

As much as I like rain, I’m ready for some warmth and relaxation. Although it didn’t rain like hell while I was home sick, it has managed to sprinkle and drizzle and rain off and on throughout the week. Usually when I’m out running errands. Or, best yet, yesterday morning when I went for a walk. More rain in today’s forecast, which is a bit of a bummer as I really need to do some grocery shopping and I hate getting soggy while doing this chore.

As for the holidays, we’re VERY low-key. Both sides of the family have eliminated presents this year (to which I say hallelujah), so the only shopping I did was for my Secret Santa exchange at work and a few friends. And most of the cards have already been mailed. No tree, no decorations. In fact, this is as festive as I get…

I blatantly stole that picture from Jenners, who posted it along with a fabulous song JUST FOR ME. Go check it out and tell her how stellar I look in green.

When it comes to Monte Cristo sandwiches, it seems there are two distinct camps…the lovers, and the rest of us who won’t touch them with a ten-foot pole. It’s been kinda interesting to see who likes an excuse to eat jelly with their ham and cheese sandwiches.

I am also still buying books. Jenners and Sandy somehow talked me into Bag of Bones and Rose Madder, and Michelle conned me into listening to Year Zero. And I’m dithering over Daughter of Smoke and Bone. So many books, people!!

I’ve made no progress on Bleak House or The Count this week. Well, I did read a few chapters of The Count, but with that beast you have to read 100 pages in order to feel like you’ve made any progress!

And finally, I’ll leave with one last link: Tasha wrote a fabulous Ode to DNFs. You should go read it.

I can’t speak for The Count but I know that reading Bleak House while you’re not feeling good is impossible!

  2. You need to use that photo for your Christmas card next year!

You are beautiful in green. And read I Hunt Killers. Don’t be afraid of the series….it doesn’t END like a series.

  4. Ti says:

I saw that photo the other day and thought it appropriate. Especially if you are the wordsmith she says you are.

Love your holiday card. We are very low-key as well, about all I do is a wreath, menorah, and mail a few cards. Gifts are generally “giftcards” so no stress there. Hope the colds disappear and that both of you are good as new for HI – enjoy

  6. Sandy says:

You may have met your match with Jenners. That song was brilliant. I may need to sharpen my pencil and take you on in WWF. And honestly, I’m not sure how I convinced you to buy Rose Madder based on the hundred page psychadelic journey through a painting, but I’m afraid! It isn’t his best work but it is bizarre, and my husband, who NEVER READS, actually read that book.

  7. Michelle says:

Since you somehow convinced me to read It AND American Psycho, I think it is only fair you felt the urge to listen to Year Zero. I also think you might have gotten the less disturbing read out of the bunch too. ;)

Glad you are feeling better! And yes, this is security that your Hawaiian vacation will be germ- and stress-free, like it should be!

  8. Go you with your Hawaiian getaway. I’m toootally envious.

    You look awesome in green!

And I’m glad someone is reading. I’m barely creepin’ through anything at this point.

Oh, Hawaii in December sounds grand, but since we are in the 70′s here in Florida now, I guess I can’t complain. I love your fabulous grinchiness. I am not buying a lot of presents either. It’s a somber Christmas with the passing of my step-dad. So forgive me if I’ve missed some posts. I’m here now, and all is well.

  10. Stephanie says:

That Grinch picture is very cool. And kind of creepy. I’m glad you’re feeling better … hope Hamburger is on the mend soon.

  11. Jenners says:

You do look great in green!! I just love how that came out. : )

And I’m glad you liked your song … in which I basically accuse you of cheating at Words with Friends! HA! : )

And now I feel personally responsible for your reading experience of Bag of Bones. Crossing my fingers!

And why are men always such little babies when they are sick? Mr. Jenners is the same way. Big babies.

And why do all my sentences start with “and”? Isn’t that breaking some kind of grammatical rule?

  12. I almost did a spit take with that photo. Nice! And also creepy!

  13. Rory says:

Bag of Bones is my absolute favorite Stephen King, I’ll be curious to know what you think. And I love Hawaii, particularly Kauai, one of my favorite achievements was hiking the Kalalau Trail. Did you see there making Under the Dome in a 13 part miniseries on CBS? I’m curious to see who they’ll cast (it probably won’t be Timothy Olyphant).

  14. Beth F says:

I haven’t been to Hawaii in years but I loved the time I worked there. Enjoy your stay — sounds lovely. The north shore of Oahu was almost empty when I worked in Honolulu. Hard to believe.

  15. I popped in to see what you are up too and now I am link hopping…LOL
Hawaii is somewhere I have always wanted to go!

  16. Athira says:

Ha! I really loved that picture. I’m going to have make one of myself.

  17. stacybuckeye says:

Hawaii sounds divine right now. Gage is crying because he doesn’t want to sleep, I have 3 loads of laundry to finish, 3 more gifts to pack, a kitchen to clean, all before we leave for my parents in less than 12 hours. Can you tell how much I needed to escape? I’m spending 15 minutes going through my Reader!

  18. Hope you’re having a fabulous time in Hawaii! You look very excellently Grinchy. So you.

  19. Kailana says:

I could do without the stress of the season… I am still not done wrapping because I HATE wrapping…
