“I like good strong words that mean something…” Louisa May Alcott, Little Women
Florinda and I will be reading (or re-reading) Little Women in March. Because March is a most suitable month for the March sisters. And because I read this book so long ago that I don’t even remember when I read it. Although I do remember the two things that pissed me off. But it’s too soon to be going into detail on that. Anyhoosie…I need better memories of this book! And I need a support group, so you should totally join us. Because this readalong is all about ME.
It will all be quite low-key (in other words…I ain’t got no button and I ain’t got no party favors for this shin-dig), but we’d still love for you to join us. And if you need to pull a Joey and stick the book in the freezer, I’ll totally understand (that’s from a Friends episode, in case you were wondering).
The details:
- Read, listen, or watch…your choice…between March 1st and March 31st
- Tweet your thoughts using the hashtag #marchon
- Post your thoughts whenever
- I’ll put up a check-in post mid-month, and a wrap-up post when it’s all over
So have I talked you into it?? Or have I scared you away with my bad memories? It’s totally a classic that EVERYONE should read at least once (if not twice) in their life. And if you haven’t read it, you know you want to know why Joey wants to put the book in the freezer.

OOH tempting… have not read this one in such a long time.
Do it!!
I am in! We do need props though… I am thinking…. let me get back to you
Pictures of us in bonnets or something, or perhaps putting the book in the freezer as Joey did because after all, they were freakishly little women!
I am joining, though I might not post on twitter. I will read along, and post a review, in addition to discussing the book whenever you post about it. It’s high time I read this one, and I have a really sentimental attachment to it, as it was the book I read to a friend while she was critically ill. I never finished it though, and I need to. Excellent readalong, Jill!
Yay!!!
I have never managed to make it through this book. And I’ve tried two or three times! Ack! I often feel I’m deficient in this area.
There is no deficient, there is only try.. (Bad Yoda impression.)
I really want to re-read this one. I hope I can join in–just need to find the time for a chunkster.
It was a lot bigger than I remembered it being when I pulled it off of the shelf.
Evan and I are alllllllllmost finished with this, can I still play? I can wait and post my thoughts in March?
I last read it in 2005, so perhaps it’s time to revisit Marmeeville.
Aww, I love this book. I actually just re-read it last month and it was such a treat. Have fun!
Okay I’m in but I’m going to need a reminder to pick this book up.
Hm. I read the book years ago and came away nonplussed. I could be tempted to watch a movie version though. I did see it performed at the theater and liked it better that way!
So….we just say we’ll do it and then we do it? That simple? And Tweet a bit, and write random thoughts about the book a bit?
I think I’m in!!
Sorry I’m late! I’m joining in. I think I mentioned that this is one of my top five favorite books of all time.
I did finish The Shining…just have to write my review. I liked it.
I’m in. This sounds horrible, but I can’t remember if I’ve ever finished this one or not. Isn’t that awful? I know I started it – a few times – and awhile back, my daughter and I were reading it together before bedtime. So, it is time.
