Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!

Today would’ve been my dad’s 71st birthday (wow, that sounds weird, since he is forever frozen at 53 in my memory). So since he was born on the greenest of holidays, AND because his nickname was Sam, AND because my mom and I once made him this for breakfast on his birthday (with a side of green grits):

green eggs and ham Happy Saint Patricks Day!Say!

I like green eggs and ham!
I do!! I like them, Sam-I-am!
And I would eat them #inaboat!
And I would eat them with a goat… (this makes Billy happy)
And I will eat them in the rain.
And in the dark. And on a train.
And in a car. And in a tree.
They are so good so good you see!

So I will eat them in a box.
And I will eat them with a fox.
And I will eat them in a house.
And I will eat them with a mouse.
And I will eat them here and there.
Say! I will eat them ANYWHERE!

I do so like
green eggs and ham!
Thank you!
Thank you,
Sam-I-am

53 is so young. My husband is 52. Boy we need to live each day to the fullest. Happy birthday to your dad.

  2. We made green eggs and ham once when I was a kid. Well, more green eggs since I don’t know how to make ham green. They tasted good, but looked pretty awful :) Happy birthday to your dad (and I second what Sandy said… my dad just turned 54 this month, wow).

Good way to remember your father. And wow, Kim! I didn’t realize I was older than your dad. Sigh.

  4. Debi says:

Wow, of the sad variety. How very young you must have been losing your Dad. This is a lovely tribute!

  5. Oh, wow, I’m sorry. My dad is frozen at 62 and I always thought that was ridiculously young. Happy St. Patrick’s Day and great way to honor your father!

So sweet. Happy birthday to your dad! *hugs to you Jill*

  7. Ali says:

I would draw the line at green grits. Hugs to you on your dad’s special day. (And for what it’s worth, my parents are still 53 in my mind, too, even though in reality they’re 75).
